About the Author
Favorite city: Petosky, Michigan We lived there for a year when I was five. I attended kindergarten there. It must have been a happy experience since I recall it so fondly.
Favorite fictional cat: Midnight Louie, with T.S.Eliot's Macavity a close second. Remember Macavity, from CATS ? He's the one who wasn't there. Vases fall off shelves and lamps crash to the floor, but Macavity is never at the crime scene. Then there's the cat that's always on the wrong side of the door. When out, he wants in, and when in, he wants out. Our Sammy often has that problem.
Favorite living cat: Lady Delilah. I live with her. She drinks her water out of stemware, and has her own chair at the breakfast table. Mostly, she treatrs her household humans as help, and expects them to toe the line , but she does have her moments when she wants a cuddle. Then we get to pet while she purrs, and her haughtiness is forgiven.
I don't have a favorite dog at the moment, but I once walked a Scotty named Jake who knew everyone in the town of Norwalk, Ohio It was a strange experience. People along the way would stop for long conversations with the tail-wagger while not even acknowledging me. I was the necessary accessory at the other end of the leash, and Jake was everyone's friend.
Favorite Hobby: Sailing Actually, I never quite mastered it, much as I wanted to. Strings tied to the sails showed the direction of the wind, and instructors would tell me to watch those strings. I watched faithfully--but once having ascertained the wind direction, I didn't know what to do next. Instructors would explain but, distracted by my love of flying across the water with the wind in my hair, I couldn't pay attention. I managed to come about if told to, but when on my own, I dunked myself in Walloon Lake.
Favorite vacation site: Family Camp--any family camp I can share with my grandchildren, but especially Camp Michigania, over on the pinkie side of the Great Mitten, where tawny sand dunes and green pine trees meet blue water in an unforgetable combo and my favorite city is only a few miles away.
